The most common hedgerow species in Ireland. Traditionally known as the 'Fairy tree'. Tolerates exposure and will grow in most soils.
Uses: Excellent for hedging, stock-proof hedging, specimen tree, berries can be used to make wine.
Wildlife value: Probably the most important tree for wildlife in Ireland. Masses of flowers for pollinators in May followed by berries in the Autumn.
